Washington Symposium on Magic History

About the Event

Welcome to the home page for
THE WASHINGTON SYMPOSIUM ON MAGIC HISTORY
                 April 25-27, 2013
at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, Bethesda, MD 20852

Join us in DC for a dozen fascinating speakers on an array of eclectic topics of interest to magic enthusiasts, a dealers room with 23 dealers selling apparatus, books, posters, Houdiniana, ephemera, you name it; a Saturday auction of vetted materials for our attendees only;  and a private one day only exhibit for our attendees at the Library of Congress of some amazing relics of magic history from not only their Houdini and McManus Young Collections, but also posters from the Prints and Photographs Division. The items that will be on display at this special exhibit have been specially selected, and are some of the most valuable and historically significant artifacts  from these collections....and if you were to come to the Library any other time and seek to view these many items, they could not all be seen in one visit, given the limits inherent in visits to the Rare Book Division.

Our speakers, by the way, are Bill Kalush, John McLaughlin, Darwin Ortiz, Dale Salwak, Eric Henning, David Saltman, Will Given, Shreeyash Palshikar, James Hamilton, Diego Domingo, Bruce MacNab,  Dean Arnold and Stephen Fenton and Mary Oey, whose presentations will run the gamut of magic  history, from Espionage and Magic to Alexander Herrmann to Jerry AndrusHarry Houdini to the magic of North Korea to radio psychic Gene Dennis The John Salisse Collection of 19th century magic to the New York  magic scene c. 1972.  From the Davenport Brothers to the magic of India to the magic of Charles Bertram  and care and preservation of old books. You will not want to miss any of the talks!

We will also be honoring two longtime friends of the magic community, Carl Williams and Nick Ruggiero,

Who are our magic dealers, you ask? How about Mario Carrandi, Dave Haversat, Gabe Fajuri (Potter Auctions), George Daily, Kevin Connelly, Arthur Moses, Magic Warehouse, Angelo Iafrate, Ray Goulet, Charles Greene III, Tom Ewing, Signature Pieces, Pierre Mayer, Jim Rawlins, Mark Horowitz, Jay Hunter, Joe Hanosek, Ken Norris, the Scorpions, Dean Alan Carnegie, Phil Schwartz, Byron Walker, Wayne Alan and  Magic Posters.com !

So, you will definitely not want to miss what is destined to be a memorable conference!

To make the weekend even more convenient and enjoyable, we have arranged for the symposium to be held at a top Marriott property, just outside Washington, DC, but easily accessible to downtown on the nearby Metrorail system.

All we need to make the conference a success is for you to attend! The event is timed so that your visit will coincide with the time when DC's weather is most pleasant and the cherry blossoms are in bloom! So, please go to the registration page, linked below, and join us in April. At $109 a night - a rate that is only available until April 11 (and thereafter on a case by case basis, as rooms are available), we could  run out of rooms soon, so don't be disappointed.
